Supernatural Notions of the Creation of Earth

November 4th, 2009

Theories of a “Special Creation” or other supernatural notions of the how the earth and its creatures appeared is absolute bunk! Creation theory is held also to apply to the higher species as well as to the species of a genus, and even Mr. Darwin’s toughest critics dare to indicate that the early bird, reptile, or fish must have been “specially created.” This broad, this entirely unprecedented shift in common view has been the result of the influence of one man, and was played out in a mere twenty years! This is the resolve to those who persist in to uphold that the “origin of species” had not yet discovered. We may acknowledge all this, just as we might admit that there are enormous difficulties in the means of a full comprehension of the ancestry and nature of all the parts of the solar system and the stellar universe. Yet we acknowledge Darwin as the Newton of natural history, just so surely as we admit that the discovery and presentation by Newton of the law of gravity proved order in place of chaos and placed a sure groundwork for all potential study of the universe, so surely has Darwin, by his uncovering of the law of natural selection and his manifestation of the great principle of the preservation of usable variations in the struggle for life built a stable origination for all future study of nature.

Just to point out the perspective Darwin had of his work, and he alone postulated to have done, the concluding passage of the introduction to the Origin of Species should be carefully counted. “Although much rests vague, and will long continue to bet vague, I can entertain no doubt, after the most deliberate and dispassionate judgment of which I am capable, that the opinion which most naturalists until recently held and which I formerly entertained — particularly that each species has been independently created — is incorrect. I am fully positive that species are not immutable; but that those belonging to the same genera are direct descendants of some other and generally extinct species, in the same fashion as the acknowledged varieties of any one species are the descendants of that species. Furthermore, I am sure that Natural Selection has been the most important, but not the only, process of modification.”

The artwork by Michelangelo Adam and God attests to the genius coming forth in the further evolution of art, philosophy and science.
