A Look at Peak District Cottages
November 1st, 2009Located conveniently between Manchester and Sheffield, the Peak District is an idyllic getaway from the tensions and strains of town and city day to day life. If you are from Manchester or Sheffield, it’s accessible within an hour going by train or car and a wonderful pick for a weekend break. If you’re coming from further afield, we would say it’s good if you can stay in the Peak District for 5 or 6 days since there’s much to see and do in the Peak District.
A lot of travellers associate the Peak District with summer holidays, but it’s stunning all year round, and in no other area of the UK are the four seasons more emphasized than in the Peak area.
As mentioned previously, there’s plenty of activities in the Peak area. The glorious hillsides entice people out of their hotels and onto long walks, and there’s lots of trails to ramble on - as many as thirty well tramped routes.
In addition, there’s plenty of spots to try your luck at fishing in the Peak District, particularly Ladybower. If you’re not disposed to such physical pasttimes, drive your car and check out Chatsworth House. Three of four hours at the house is recommended, the gardens alone you can idle a good few hours in! Or try Buxton for lunch and a walk in the pavilion gardens, or the opera (yes, Buxton has its own Opera house). Finally the villages in the Hope Valley that are picturesque and well worth the visit.
So how to locate accommodation in the Peak area? We strongly recommend hiring a Peak District cottage. That way you have the seclusion of your own place, and the opportunity to unwind with your friends and family in a comfy environment. The most effective place to locate such holiday cottages is to go online and search. Use a search term like “weekend breaks in the Peak District” and you are sure to find a good deal of possible options.
