An Introduction to Products for the Visually Impaired
September 19th, 2009Many people neglect the section in our society who are what can be described as visually impaired. We are inclined to cluster individuals as having adequate sight, requiring glasses, or are completely blind. But there is another group of people: the visually impaired. So how much loss of sight do the visually impaired have?
Vision impariment is vision loss (to a person) to such a degree as to qualify as a handicap. This variety of vision loss is a symptom of either congenital, degenerative conditions, trauma, or disease that can’t be sorted out through established means, for example wearing glasses, medication, or surgery.
Nonetheless, there are a number of implements available for those with such vision loss to aid them with their day to day life, for example talking watches, and screen readers to help those with visual impairment when surfing the web.
A problem those with visual impairment have with offline shopping is that numerous shops don’t consider visual impairment, and so frequently miss out on extra revenue. For Instance, signs are made using small fonts, shop lighting is dim, or the shop is sprawling with merchandise, making it difficult for the visually impaired to walk about. Helping the visually impaired helps your business as you include a significant segment of society into your range of potential customers.
It is wonderful news that the UK government are recognising the needs of the disabled more and more via the The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
