Empty Office Space in Liverpool

March 23rd, 2009

This is not going to be your year if you own office space in Liverpool and it could be a long while before your profit margins are anywhere near what was expected initially. Empty office blocks are a sign that the current recession is affecting commerce in a very bad way.

In recent years the city of Liverpool had become a vibrant and modern attraction to international companies but now this has changed. The sense of gloom is becoming an everyday part of the economic situation that industrialists face today. The challenge of tackling problems like reduced office rental will have to be met full on and will take courage.

A combination of a low sterling rate and a decrease in the cost of living in the UK will help to attract foreign business to this historic city. The advantages of being an international port could possibly make the difference for companies, like it did for the Maersk group, the ship owners that could see Liverpool’s potential and acted accordingly.

With less than half a million of office square footage currently occupied the challenge is a mountainous one to climb. If the rapid decline from the previous year is not addressed the future economy in Merseyside will be truly threatened. There has been a demand in a particular sector though, and that is in renting desk space. The trend in nomadic workspace has fuelled the need for sites such as Desk Space Genie, a dedicated rent desk site, allowing users to search for available deskspace to rent in any location they choose.

Competition comes from all major cities each vying for the attention of the different companies showing an interest in relocating to the north of England. Of course this is the case across Europe so it is essential that Liverpool prepares a forthright strategy.
