Requirements for a Driver’s License

February 27th, 2009

Every state has different requirements for passing a driving test and acquiring a license. This is odd, considering that driver’s licenses are valid for driving in all 50 states (provided you are only a resident in the one of your license). It is difficult to know about all of these different driving laws beforehand if you are planning on doing a lot of cross-country driving. But in general, they do not differ that greatly. The driver’s license requirements do have several differences. For example, in California you do not have to complete a parallel park to receive your license, but you do in Pennsylvania. There should be some sort of driver’s license bond that is valid throughout the country where all states abide by the same laws and rules and there is no confusion. The good thing is that, if you acquire your license in one state and then move to another, normally you don’t have to take the test again in order to get that state’s license. You may have to take a written test, however, which can also have some variations between regions. These are generally less detrimental to your everyday behind-the-wheel driving than not knowing how to parallel park, for instance.
